When Mark & Jayne took ownership of Lewana Cottages in 2017 they knew it was in need of a makeover. The old website and branding were seriously outdated and did not illustrate what the amazing little holiday village offered. Mark and Jayne had a good idea of what they wanted so it was only a matter of guiding them in the right direction and bringing their ideas to reality. I visited the cottages to get a grasp of the grounds and the vibe of the area. This allowed me to take photos of the cottages with the website in mind. The logo included a nod to the original logo with a sketch of the cottage.

My good friend Tracey Gibbs is a book designer who just happens to have crazy good kitchen skills, and almost a year ago now we worked together on this unusual crazy project - cooking someone else's amazing food from their cookbook and photographing it. In two days she cooked an entire cookbook worth of dishes and I photographed them. There was SO MUCH FOOD. It was a very delicious two days!

Stacey and Liam got married at Karridale Cottages & Hop Farm in early November. It was the first ever wedding at this venue and it was amazing how well both the owners Olivia and Trey and the couple Stacey and Liam pulled it off without a hitch. They were so lucky in fact that the days leading up to the wedding were rainy and miserable, but the sun came out on the day. Stacey and Liam did most of the styling (and making) themselves. The couple and their immediate family rented out all the cottages for a week leading up to the wedding so they could prepare and have fun together. Owner Trey brewed his own beer (using hops from his own hop farm). Everyone pitched in to help out including picking all the florals by hand locally and putting them together the day before! This couple knew how to have a good time and were completely chilled out on the day, I practically had to drag them away from having fun in order to take some photos!

Professional product photography was an important investment for Perth based family company Sammimis. Not only were they in the process of getting a new website, but they needed to plan their marketing strategies for the year ahead and wanted to get the photography all ready to go. Sammimis needed to showcase their wonderful products in use and as the product is so versatile we had to spread it out over several photoshoots. Funny story: I was initially hired to as a stylist having provided some examples of my work but when they discovered I was actually a photographer it was an added bonus for the client!

A Moveable Feast are relative new kids on the catering block and they've started with a bang. Between Zac's amazing food and Ellie's amazing creative styling, they are a force to be reckoned with. Ellie always surprises me with her unique ideas - for example at the Wedding Feels expo, rather than simply displaying or giving away food samples, Ellie and Zac had their future clients come in for an official tasting (something that would happen anyway). They all sat around a communal table and enjoyed the feast. Passersby looked jealous and intrigued. Such a unique way to display your offerings!

I volunteer for a local community group the Vic Park Collective who collaborate between local businesses, residents and the Town of Victoria Park to make Vic Park “uniquely awesome”. Being part of the committee, I am the resident photographer for all our events! It's so important to capture these events, not just for memory's sake but for future promotional use. When Robbie asked me to photograph her family (including two dogs) I figured the perfect place for it would be Kent St Weir, a favourite of mine. We were able to capture the beautiful evening twilight and the children and dogs ran free. By getting the entire family together we were able to capture families, couples, kids, pets as well as everyone naturally playing together.

I was pretty excited to meet Faith from frockfinder, she had just established her designer dress rental business operating out of an awesome basement venue in Perth City and needed a logo. I can’t take much credit for the design as Faith knew exactly what she wanted, I just had to put it together for her. The real fun started when the brief expanded to a website and then a fashion lookbook photoshoot.

Since establishing her business in 2015, Faith and I get together for regular fashion photoshoots to expand the lookbook.

Our photoshoot location is always the amazing Flour Factory, a historic 100 year old flour mill that is now home to the Flour Factory restaurant and venue space upstairs (frockfinder occupy a space in the building). We are able to work with lots of great walls, windows and natural light.

I’m proud as punch to be the photographer for Stacey & Liam’s down south wedding in November. These two lovebirds have such a relaxed and happy spirit that I know the wedding is going to be an absolute blast. I asked them both if they’d like to meetup in Fremantle for a coffee at Moore & Moore and chat about the wedding, and then perhaps have a little photoshoot afterwards. It turns out Fremantle was where they had their first date so it was all very fitting! Whilst it’s always very awkward to take photos of a couple in a natural loving embrace (awkward for them AND me!) – breaking the ice now, before the big day, means we’ll be able to snap right into it come November. And we had so much fun today that I’m truly excited for their wedding!

When Olivia and Trey bought the Karridale Cottages property in early 2015 it was in much need of some love. Not only were the stone and rammed earth cottages overdue for some updates, but the business needed an entire rebrand. Olivia and Trey had big ideas for the South West property, including a hop yard which will supply hops to microbreweries, so we had to get this brand right from the start.

Olivia and Trey invited me down to stay at the property so I could take some photos and discuss the brand with them. It was a great way to do things, I was so inspired by the beauty of the property and one of my hand drawn sketches from that weekend ended up being the actual logo!

As we all shared a passion for sustainability I made sure their brand reflected this. I also suggested some alternative marketing solutions, such as designing a stamp so they could hand stamp their logo and business cards on recycled stock meaning little to no wastage. Olivia and Trey even had name tags made out of karri wood!

I’ve since visited them a second time to capture all the amazing changes they’ve made to the property. The hop yard is planted and growing well. The cottages have had an awesome makeover with Olivia’s rustic design style, they’ve installed solar power, rain tanks for the hop yard and they’ve been renovating the original tobacco shed on the manager’s property.

As far as the website was concerned, Olivia and Trey wanted to represent the property as best as possible online. We knew there are people who will judge and decide on accommodation based solely on the photos and website. I think it’s awesome that Olivia and Trey are so passionately involved in the property, and I especially love that they have dog friendly accommodation. Their chocolate labrador Fuggles is super cute! The cottage pages are full of images and even a helpful floorplan. We kept with the ‘sketch’ look for lots of the branding.

And of course we created a blog so Olivia and Trey can share their journey with clients. One of the most interesting things to follow has been the development of the hop yard! Blogs also happen to be great ways to increase traffic to your website.

When I met with Kelly Jones late in 2014 we sat in a Bassendean cafe and discussed Kelly’s amazing ideas and aspirations to buy a real estate business on the Old Perth Road strip. Kelly grew up in Bassendean and her family still lived there, so it felt like a natural step to build her business and future there.

I had the epic task of building her brand from scratch and from a design perspective help her launch the business. My first job? Take some photos of the neighbourhood. These photos were the catalyst to understand the brand and everything behind it; he history, the houses, the people, the amazing local amenities like the river and green spaces, and the emerging cafe strip. These photos still feature in most of Kelly’s marketing collateral.

From there I’ve designed logos, signage, brochures, tshirts and postcards and some staff photos just to mention a few. It’s a fun ride and I always love visiting Bassendean to catch up with Kelly and find out what new exciting things are happening for her and the neighbourhood.

The Once Upon a Wall workshops were a community art initiative created by the Vic Park Collective. The workshops allowed residents in the local Vic Park community an opportunity to engage with local artists and help make public blank walls beautiful. The workshops were held over two weekends; the first Saturday is a meet and greet at the Koolroom Project Space with the artist, followed by hands on preparation for the mural artwork (i.e. illustrating and cutting stencils), then the following Saturday you help put it all together which includes picking up that spray can or paint roller and making art! I was engaged by the Vic Park Collective to document the workshops and the artists in action.

When Alana and I met at our local coffee shop Antz Inya Pantz to discuss her new business venture and all the new branding to come with it, it became quite clear that all the design inspiration for her brand was right in front of us – good coffee and a newspaper! Alana’s background in journalism meant she had a soft spot for ‘newspaper font’ and black & white. The business name, Hyphen Media, came from her infamous hyphenated surname Buckley-Carr. And Alana just really likes coffee.

I was absolutely honoured when both Lee & Derek Baston of Baston & Co Property approached me for a photography project. The brief was simple: capture the essence of Vic Park life (#vicparklife) beyond the usual 'stock photography'. I was given some time and carried my camera with me everywhere. The photos are used on their website and for marketing campaigns.

When Harvest Espresso first opened in 2013 and I approached them to see if they'd mind taking some photos of their amazing food for my portfolio. They liked the shots so much that since then I have regularly photographed their seasonal menu changes.
